Who cares what J.K. Rowling thinks?
Recently, JK Rowling announced that Dumbledore is gay. I have no problem with gay people, nor with Dumbledore being gay. My problem is with JK Rowling expounding facts about the book that are not in the books.
In my opinion, once a work is published, the author has no greater authority than any reader in its interpretation. Therefore, unless Dumbledore says the words “I’m gay” or something of similar clarity, his sexuality is open to interpretation. I think it’s ridiculous that she can matter-of-factly state his sexuality and who he was in love with when those statements are by no means obviously substantiated by facts in the books themselves.
JK Rowling is entitled to her opinion - it’s just that her opinion isn’t worth any more than mine now that the series is complete.
EDIT Nov 2015: J.K. Rowling continues to put out more revelations on the book and Colbert rightly mocks her.
